we've discussed both a million times but i just wonder if this is the season we get them both sorted out under JJ.

i'm hopeful, given JJ has introduced a strict preseason fitness regime and a disciplinery code of conduct, but we're off to a bad start on both fronts with another record fine from the SFA and some of our top players recovering from injuries and surgery.

hopefully this is just the legacy of last season and this year will see a turn around in our fortunes as i really think we have a squad capable of so much more than we've delivered in the last few seasons and believe if we get a good run without injury and suspension issues to deal with we could be in for an enjoyable season.

allow me to pre-empt the innevitable first couple of replies...... a striker and an attacking midfielder will help as well.

but with or without the new signings we require it's absolutely vital we get some consistency in selection with our best players regularly available this term.

I'm not acting as devils advocate here, I am trying to be fair minded, but some of the decisions that go against Hearts players have to make you wonder if there is a bit of bias leveled at the club.
Romanov has made enough enemies at the wrong side of the country to allow me to think this way, and no one who is mentally balanced ever believed the Old Firm got the same treatment from Refs and officials as the rest of us.
I always direct those who rubbish this sentiment to a certain Sir Alex Ferguson. During one game at Ibrox when Aberdeen were at their peak, the ball went out, and as an Aberdeen defender and Rangers player went to claim it, the linesman said to Der Hun..."It's our throw".

Fitness is something the club should take resposibility for, ability is up to the player. With the number of injuries and time out that modern players have, I am beginning to think they are a bunch of screaming *beep*.

you big homophobe! (the sweary filter on here does davies ***s in aswell kimura)

i agree about the bias refereeing, we've been on the wrong end of too many bad decisions in recent years, with some players getting booked on reputation as opposed to on merit for the foul. miko picked up countless bookings for diving over the years when he was genuinely fouled and zaliukas has been book and sent off for some truely outrageous decisions.

but at the same time there has still been a lack of discipline at times in the past 5 years and we've picked up a lot of daft bookings, unnecesary sendings off with a couple of disgraceful games when we've lost the plot and had 3-4 players sent off (hamilton last year and dundee united the year before)

(Zali once got sent off after Lee Miller headbutted him.)

Talking of discipline I see we were handed a £60k fine for our record last season. It's something we definitely need to improve on coming into the new season. Throughout the last few seasons the lack of discipline within the squad has been pretty clear at times but I don't see JJ standing for it like some of our previous managers.

Granted it's not all down to us and there have been quite a few dodgy cards/decisions given against us. Let's not give them any excuse to hit us with a fine again at the end of next season.
