Full Version: Hearts target Hartley can go on free transfer

PAUL HARTLEY is available to Hearts or any other interested party on a free transfer after Bristol City confirmed the midfielder can leave Ashton Gate for nothing despite 12 months remaining on his contract.
Tynecastle officials spoke with Hartley's representatives earlier this week and are aware that he is available for free. However, the Edinburgh club have yet to submit a formal offer aimed at luring the 33-year-old back to Gorgie.

Steve Coppell, the Bristol City manager, left Hartley out of his squad for a pre-season trip to Sweden and has admitted he does not expect him to be with the Championship club this season. Hartley has made clear his intentions to return to Scotland and Hearts remain his first choice, although he has several other options both north and south of the border.

With clubs across Britain now well into their pre-season programmes, Hartley will be faced with having to look elsewhere if a formal proposal from Hearts is not forthcoming. Jim Jefferies remains a huge admirer of the Scotland internationalist but has made inquiries about other midfielders and will not be pressed into action.

"I know all about Paul's situation," he said. "We're not going to say whether a deal will be done quickly or not.

"We just hope that some of the inquiries that we have made, not just for Paul, but other players, that we see where we'll stand and we'll make our moves then when we know the positions for everybody.

I've got tto watch what I say on this forum, I've been ripped to shreds before for "leaking" odds and ends.
BUT, my source says Hearts have NOT made any offers to Paul.
It's also my understanding that a package is on the table at Kilmarnock for Bryson, and it is looking good at the moment.
What we don't need just now is someone buying Wallace or Driver and other clubs thinking we are swimming in money!!!

surely your thinking of another site? your inside info is more than welcome. as long as your no talking s***e laugh.gif

or do you mean you got ripped to shreds by the insider that trusted you with sensititve information?

i think there is an interest in hartley, JJ has admitted he is a player he rates. (of course that doesn't mean he will attempt to sign him) but JJ said he wouldn't pay over the odds for him. he's available for free so i think it'll just be a case of seeing how we get on with bryson and/or other midfield targets and how much has been taken out of the pot if/when we sign other targets. i think JJ knows were heavy favorites to sign hartely if we want him so as long as no other club makes a move we'll be in no hurry. it may even be a case of hartely being viewed as a back up plan to trying to get bryson, although thats unlikely with the difference in ages and playing styles.

as for bryson, i believe the club will just be taking there time and trying to be patient to get the player at the best price possible. kilmarnock were playing hard ball, but they'll let him go eventually if they don't get a better offer. the risk to us, of course, is if a championship club take an interest and offer somewhere close to killies valuation.

I "reported that Paul Hartley would be signing for Bristol City and that Jose Goncalves would be coming back from Germany to spend his last year at Tynecastle and got roasted.
A few weeks later both came to pass.
I now refuse to go into specifics, but stick by what I've said. The guy who mentioned Hartley and Bryson to me is a good mate of an agent, who tends to get good snippets.
Well so far he has!

will see the Scotland internationalist become the highest-paid player at Tynecastle and will also thrust him into contention for the captaincy,

i have to admit to being a little surprized at this snippet of info. although i'd love to see hartley return, i'd be shocked to know we're breaking the bank, so to speak, to sign him. i wouldn't have thought we'd have had to offer him a huge wage to move. he wants to return home, i doubt he's wanted by either OF club so who are we competing with? hibs? surely we don't need to make hartley our top earner to fend off intest from those skinflints.

who is our top earner now that larry, nade, goncalves and stewart have left? probably ruben on around £6k a week i'd imagine. surely we're not offering more than that to PH. he's still a good player, but we all know, that at his age, he represents a risky signing.

i was also dissapointed to read the bryson deal is almost dead. although i still suspect we've not totally removed ourselves from the running. i think we'll just be patient and wait to see if killie crack and let him go towards the end of the transfer window.

maybe not, maybe we'll go after other targets or just wait till january and pinch him for a fraction of what we're offering now! biggrin.gif

Ruben won't be on 6k a week Davie, more likely 3-4k a week.

I reckon Kyle will be our top earner on about 6k a week.

I'd prefer we signed Bryson to Hartley tbh, we'll get more for our cash out of Bryson, 1 hamstring, groin, achilles injury for Paul and that'll be him finished so it is certainly a risky signing especially if we were to make him our highest earner.

JJ is sounding quite keen on this mrowiec fella. i quite liked him although he wouldn't be my first choice.

i suspect if we sign him, that would be the hartley deal out of the window.

there are a lot of things to consider here though.

does JJ want to start the season with eggert in his preffered defensive midfield role and does he potentially see him as captain/vice captain material. i believe he possibly does. in which case any defensive midfielder signed would be brought in as back up as opposed to a first choice midfielder. hartley wouldn't be happy at this and it would be a waste of a lot of money on wages. and the idea of signing hartley for his leadership abilities (on the park at least) would be pretty redundant.

mrowiec would be the more sensible option in this case..... decent solid back up for eggert and costs nowt.

the money saved bringing in mrowiec ahead of hartley could be used for a more important target up front or an attacking midfield player who will play a more important role. i'm kinda playing devils advocate here as i'd love to sign hartley.

but i'd like to see eggert play a full season as first pick in midfield, except in the case of real emergencies where is versitility is required elsewhere.

so i don't think i'll be too dissapointed if we don't sign hartley as long as any funds for that deal are used wisely elsewhere.

oh yeah.... and as long as hartley doesn't sign for that muccky leith mob

On the BBCi gossip pages for ffotball, one newspsper says that We are battling it out with Aberdeen for PH.
I'm not bothered about him. To me he crossed a line when he did that press conference.

Also JJ loves utility men. Flogel as a right back. Tomashek as the "Salvatore" figure. Obua as striker. So my money is on Jonsson playing all over the place. Wallace as centre back. Palazualepos as left back.

I hope it is a good season too.

It has been a while since I've been to the football, so I don't know what Bryson or Stevenson or are like.

As far as I've been told (source close to Ian Black).

He was one of the top three high earners, Nade and Kingston the other two.
